OUR VIRTUAL INTERVIEW PROCESS

Because COVID-19 Happened...

We consider our employees (and potential employees!) part of our family, so your health, safety, and well-being are really important to us. That's why we're doing things a little differently. Until we're all safe, we'll be interviewing candidates through Microsoft Teams video conferencing.

Just in case you've never done a video interview before, we wanted to make sure we provided you with information to have a successful interview. Below, we've provided you with information about the virtual hiring process, a link to download Microsoft Teams, and some tips to ace your interview.

OUR VIRTUAL INTERVIEW PROCESS

After you apply for your position, our hiring team will select qualified candidates to interview. If you're one of them, we'll reach out and find a time that works for you to interview with us. Here's what happens next:

  • We'll email you a calendar invite with a link for your interview.
  • You'll need to download Microsoft Teams to your computer, laptop, or phone. You can authorize the download in your email, or you can click on the button below.
  • When it's time to interview, click on the link.
  • Once in Teams, you'll be prompted through the steps to join, including adjusting video/audio and background options. Do this before requesting to join the meeting room.
  • Your interview will last approximately 30 minutes.

DEAR KRISPY KREME, HELP! MY "OFFICE" IS MY BED!?!

If you're quarantined with a bunch of family and/or friends, maybe the only quiet place to interview is a bedroom. And that can be weird, right? Thankfully, Microsoft Teams has a setting for that!

How to change your video background on Teams

While you're setting up your video and audio before joining a meeting, select Background effects. It's just to the right of the mic switch. Your background options will display on the right.

Choose Blur to blur your background. You'll appear nice and clear while everything behind you is subtly concealed.

You can also replace your background with one of the images provided.

TIPS FOR ACING YOUR VIDEO INTERVIEW

  • Download Teams before your interview time by clicking the link in your interview invite.
  • Test your internet connection before the call, and practice joining the meeting at least 15 minutes before your scheduled interview time.
  • Check your privacy settings on your device and make sure video and audio settings are enabled for Microsoft Teams.
  • Create your interview setting by finding a quiet space that is relatively distraction-free. You should be the center of attention, no matter how cute your pet is.
  • Mobile users: prop up your device instead of holding it. Then make a test video to check the angle, how far away you need to be, and lighting.
  • Dress appropriately. Wear a nice, plain shirt that isn't too bright or busy. Avoid distracting accessories.
  • Practice your interview on camera. Ask a friend or family member to interview you through your phone's video feature and ask for feedback.
  • Before your interview, close apps, email, chat, and windows. These may slow internet connection and cause unwanted distractions. If you're not interviewing on your phone, set it to silent.
  • Make eye contact--with your camera, not your screen. It's not natural, so you may want to practice.
  • Act naturally. Smile, and use hand gestures as needed.
  • If something isn't working, speak up! Technology can be finicky and it's better to let us know if you can't see or hear us, or we're breaking up, or if we have a little of our famous glaze on our face. (It happens a lot.)
